Wanted: Teams of Young Games Makers (YGMs) to make the Olympic Games happen!

Dear Go-Ride volunteers,

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has announced the start of the Young Games Maker (YGM) programme for 16-18 year olds, which will provide volunteering opportunities for young people during the Games. The programme will support LOCOG’s commitment to inspire young people to choose sport and leave a volunteering legacy. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young volunteers to be a part of the greatest show on earth.

LOCOG is inviting organisations who are able to provide a team of young volunteers (and team leaders) to apply for specialist roles via British Cycling. Young volunteers will be vital to the Games, representing the UK and delivering services that are essential for a successful and inspirational event.

Cycling YGM roles
If you would like to get involved on behalf of British Cycling you will need to provide a team consisting of team leaders and team members.

Key criteria
LOCOG aims to recruit Young Games Makers and team leaders who will bring passion, enthusiasm and energy to the Games. In addition teams must:

comprise one team leader, one secondary team leader and team members as detailed in the table on page 8 of the attached information document;

comprise members of a Go-Ride club;

comprise members of the Cycling Award for Young Volunteers or those willing to complete the award (YGMs only, not team leaders)

be able to meet the time commitment for Games time and Test events where applicable;

be eligible to volunteer in the UK in accordance with UK immigration rules.

Young Games Makers must be at least 16 years old on 1 July 2012 and under 18 years old on 1 January 2012 to be eligible.

Team leaders must be aged 18 years old or over by the 1 January 2012 and must undergo – and pass – an enhanced CRB check. Team leaders will be required to undergo an interview and attend safeguarding training.

Please note that the teams selected will be responsible for their own transport and accommodation associated with training days and the Games.

Please read the attached information document and the team application form. If you have any questions please get back to me as soon as possible, my contact details are below. The deadline for submission of application forms is 31st October 2011.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, don’t miss out on the chance to make the Games happen!

Warm regards,

Andrew

Turbo Spinning Sessions

The Club has managed to contact someone from Osbournby Village Hall  and has booked the main hall  for Thursdays 7:30 to 9:30 from next Thursday (13th).  Cost will be £2 per rider as last year.

We are away next week but please get down there with your turbos and make the most of it. If anyone has a portable hifi or ghetto blaster they can take, along with some suitable music that would be good.  Someone needs to lead the sessions so if you are a sadist who fancies some some shouting, please get yourself down there as well.

Please note that the kitchen area has not been booked at present as it doubles the cost of the booking. We may review this if there are a lot of riders/others to defray the extra cost.

Cheers

Dave

Hi
Just a reminder that we have on Tuesday night Rob Sharman giving a presentation on Developing Young athletes, at Grantham Cricket Club on Gorse Lane, all welcome, if you could spread it round your clubs please Developing Young Athletes - Workshop Tues October 11th 7.00 at the club room All young members of the club along with parents etc. should attend this. A chance to look at the physical and non-physical demands of bike racing and training levels required to become the best you can.
Should also be of interest to any older members, as much of this should also be relevant to their own approach to training and racing at whatever level they are at.
The presenter Rob Sharman is one of British Cyclings Talent Team coaches, an ex GB rider and still riding at Premier Calendar level, so he has a good idea of what its all about.

Also the following week we have

October 18th - Watt Bike Evening and Barkston Heath Presentation

A chance for some indoor racing on the BC Watt bikes, its good fun, but it can hurt, open to all, come and have a go. Plus presentation of coaches awards etc for the 2011 Barkston Heath series.

all the best

Simon
