Weather - Sunny Intervals, Temp - 10ºC, Wind - 14mph East

After last week’s gales which resulted in a rare cancellation, a gentle easterly breeze and some sunny intervals greeted the 32 riders that turned out for this evenings 10. 19 club riders and 13 private trials made up the numbers, with a couple of “come and try” younger riders amongst the usual suspects and a first time appearance on the 10 course of Kate Cook sporting a new bright green helmet.
Ali Campbell led off proceedings at around 7pm and soon all riders were off at the allocated minute intervals; sadly without Dave Smith who had a front wheel puncture; with many taking full advantage of the kind conditions as we would find from the time sheets. 6 Sleaford Wheelers recorded personal best times, Charlie certainly enjoyed hearing that she had broken 20mph with a time of 29:49, along with Maxim with a 29:25. Nick snuck inside 25 for the first time, Matt recorded 25:19 for a new bench mark and I don’t think it will be long before he is inside 25. Henry scored a sub 24 (25mph) and finally Richard Hamblin joined the 22 minute gang with a 22:51 (26.3mph).
The honours for the evening were taken by George with a 22:16 from private trial riders James and Dave
Everyone enjoyed the evening’s event and drifted off, Dennis was heard saying that he wasn’t going to race again until he could get under a 25, after seeing tonight’s performances he revised that to 23’s
Thanks to everyone who turned out tonight whatever role you played, a good all round effort from the riders, and excellent support from the marshals, timekeeper, number spotter and pusher off, with whom we couldn’t do this on a Thursday night

A dull and overcast early evening greeted 8 Sleaford Wheelers and 9 Private Trial riders for Round 6 though many thought it could be quick night. Young Fraser Harding, our newest Club member, led the riders off and it quickly became apparent that the Northerly wind would result in a quick run out to the roundabout but at the turn it hindered any hopes of a quick return leg with riders commenting that in places they were nearly below 20mph and it was like hitting a wall. Final honours for Sleaford Wheelers went to Richard Hamblin with a 22:51, just one second off matching last weeks personal best, Crasher came in second for a season best of 23:37, Nick taking the final podium place. Best Improvement and the only personal best came from Fraser who knocked nearly 6 minutes off last weeks time, good work fella. In the private trials Smedley held off Reeves with a sub 23. Good to see Sarah, back from Uni, putting in a solid performance with a mid 25. Thanks to all those who turned out to ride, marshall etc, please don’t come out next week as we are having a mid season break, so the fun kicks off again on the 13th June, signing on 6 to 6:45 for a 7pm start, perhaps we might see something approaching summer.

10 Series Report – Round 7 An unfavourable weather forecast did little to deter the riders from turning out for the 7th round after the mid-season break, although there was a noticeable lack of private trial riders with Neil Cotes of Boston Wheelers being the solitary entry. So 14 plus 1 signed on the dotted line and were sent out into a strong westerly breeze. I made the mistake of uttering a little too loudly that I was feeling a tired, to which the Club Captain picked up on and replied "Not wimping out are we Horton"… so out came the bike. Fraser led out, followed by Kate resplendent in her bright green helmet for the ladies. The wind didn't seem to be proving too much of a hindrance to anyone, well apart from me who decided that it would be a sight-seeing tour of the A15, Crasher apparently took the same view looking at his time. Top of the class this week was George, closely followed by Hamblin with a third personal best this year, whatever he's doing, it's certainly working. Other PB's going to Kate, Johnathan and Fraser. Dave Smith just ducked under 25 for a seasons best of 24:58, just one second in front of Nick. Final proceedings moved to the Horseshoes in Silk Willoughby, where I attempted to get the results together, only to prove that once again, if you enhance one thing in Excel, you seem to mess half a dozen other things up with it. So drinks and a bit of banter whilst I faffed about, and yes we did get the results out. Several of us hung around for a bit afterwards enjoying the hospitality. Remember next week we start signing on at the pub, I have spoken to the landlord about cycling shoes and his solid wood flooring and although he felt it wouldn't be a problem, it may be polite if we can avoid as much as possible wearing cleats in the pub. Just a reminder. Interclub 25 at Donnington lay-by end, any Sleaford Wheelers not entered yet, you can enter on the night for just £4, come along and support your club. Round 8 next Thursday
