A very warm welcome to the women's section of Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club.
We have created these pages to provide information for our women members and those women who are thinking of riding or racing with us. Our aim is to encourage women of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes and have fun while at the same time getting fit and meeting new friends.
Cycling on your own is great but cycling in a group is so much more fun!

I came to cycling fairly recently; first catching the bug in 2017 when the amazingly supportive ladies section persuaded me to come out on a few social rides which turned into “why don’t you do a time trial?” Now, I can regularly be found competing in the local time trials in the summer!
Being part of the club has really changed my life. I’ve met some incredible people and we definitely have some of the most supportive members to be found anywhere in Lincolnshire - probably even the country… but then I’m biased!

I am most definitely a social rider, riding simply for the pleasure of being out and about in the fresh air and hopefully getting fitter in the process. My cycling began in 2014 on a trip to Yorkshire with the Sleaford Wheelers when I realised how much pleasure could be had from joining in no matter how slow I was or how many times I had to get off and walk up the hills.
I am totally non-competitive but willingly support and encourage those who are.
The best thing about being in the Sleaford Wheelers is taking part in the social rides. Cycling on your own is great but cycling in a group is so much more fun...especially when there is a café stop somewhere on the route - there usually is!

I'm a leisure cyclist and have been a member of SWCC for several years, having swapped horses for bikes – it's just a change of saddle (if swapping saddles is good enough for Victoria Pendleton, it's good enough for me). Haven't noticed any change in comfort levels though.
If I had to describe my body type it would be that of a retired racehorse – still slim but not very speedy. During race season I can quite often be spotted grazing (sorry, I meant marshalling) on various local roundabouts. Our Sunday social rides are relaxed and friendly and a good introduction to the joys of getting about on two wheels – and who knows what it might lead to……
Come and join us and give it a go.

I joined the Wheelers a couple of years ago after my husband brought me my first road bike for my birthday. The best thing I ever did. The club has welcomed me and helped me to become more confident on my bike. I have made some wonderful friends and enjoy cycling with them all. Our club rides always involve a nice café stop which involves participating in cake although I am an avid baked beans on toast girl now just like them.

Thanks to the warm welcome from the ladies of the club, I joined and I am really enjoying cycling with the Wheelers. I love the Sunday Social Rides – so I can cycle, chat and eat cake or beans on toast at the cafe stop.
In a rash moment last year, I set a goal of cycling a 100mile sportive and surprised myself by achieving it, thanks to the support and encouragement of the other club members. I entered the Ladies seven-mile Time Trial race series last year also – they said it would be a laugh! Retrospectively it was, and I’m certainly going to take part again this year as I like being cheered on by the boys! I have met and made some great friends, some cycle a bit faster and some cycle a bit slower than me; that's the fun and diversity of the Club.
